The Nightmare Reality of Insuring an Event

It’s been a while since I posted here, but this story in the Wall Street Journal today compelled me to start typing.

After Canceled New York Marathon, a New Race Over Insurance

A marathon is very much like a tradeshow, complete with attendees (runners), sponsors, and vendors. I’m sure there were conventions at Javits or other venues that are now dealing with the same issues.

If your event is canceled, even though it was physically possible to actually still have it, will your insurance kick in? It’s a good question and a wake up call to all event organizers to have a frank discussion with their insurers.

In this case the weather had passed, but the disruption it caused had not. How much “disruption” is enough to ensure your insurance will kick in?
