Holding A Convention over 4th of July
Anime Expo is the largest convention in the USA for the Japanese animation industry. I happened across their website by accident when I read their convention started today (on July 3). Surely that must be a mistake I thought to myself.
But nope – their convention is July 3-6 over the holiday weekend. This is the first major convention I’ve heard of having their show over a major holiday weekend. I’m sure they got a killer deal on the exhibits and meeting space!
The Online Trading Expo, the first trade show I started and later sold, had great success having the convention over President’s Day weekend each February. Traders didn’t want to be away from the markets so it made sense to have the show during a market holiday. But compared to the 4th of July, President’s Day is a minor holiday.
Perhaps it works for them because they have a large international attendance who couldn’t care less about the 4th of July.
In any case, I thought it was interesting…
