Cancellation insurance

The video footage of the mayhem outside of the New Orleans Convention Center is upsetting. The website for the convention center is down, but the Convention and Visitors Bureau site indicates all conventions through December 1st have been cancelled - and that date is probably very optimistic.

There are more important issues at the moment, of course, like clean drinking water and basic survival. But months from now when the shows that were scheduled in New Orleans begin figuring out what to do, I hope they had cancellation insurance. I’ve only purchased it for our shows when we were doing them in New York in February because of the risk of a snow storm - because it’s expensive. But I’m now thinking that even on the shows in California where we have great weather I will purchase the insurance. Earthquakes, fires - anything could happen. You just never know. Which is the reason insurance exists.

I’ve always used Buttine, but AON Showstoppers also offers it.

I know it’s expensive, but the peace of mind has to be worth it. I spoke yesterday with someone who has a meeting in NOLA in January, and she’s worried she might have to use it–and is very thankful she has it.
